Beginning as a birthday party business venture, it quickly became clear that this activity was meant for so much more. Inspiration came from a superhero shoot with one little boy named Elijah who unbeknownst to us had recently overcome his battle with cancer.
The photo on the left shows Elijah (dressed as Thor) standing in the evening sunset. It wasn’t until uploading the photos from the shoot that it was discovered: a beam of light, heading straight towards Elijah’s foot where the Ewings Sarcoma had originated. Because Elijah needed a partial foot amputation, he became self-conscious of the appearance of his foot. It was this photo that boosted his confidence and made him feel like the superhero he really is.
Capes & Crowns Foundation aims to give children who are experiencing hard times a healthy distraction. We give them an opportunity to celebrate their strength, and unite them with their friends and family (who are more than welcome to participate!). When a child can step into the role of their favorite character by dressing up in costume, playing with props and creating their favorite scene, it gives an opportunity to let their imagination run wild. Seeing Elijah experience this process helped form the decision to transform this venture into the Capes & Crowns Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to bring joy to children who need it the most.
